The challenge
We received a request to develop ideas for a promotional giveaway item that would appeal to an audience of pharmaceutical professionals attending the CPhI Worldwide conference; the world’s largest Pharmaceutical conference in Madrid, Spain.
The insight
With ‘usefulness’ as a project requirement, identifying the lifestyles and habits of exhibition attendees was key to developing an appealing and relevant giveaway item. Our team recognised travel as an activity with significantly high rates of participation amongst pharma professionals – so an item that would help make an attendee’s next trip just that little bit more pleasant and comfortable was chosen as an idea that would hold strong appeal.
In fact, with travel seeing a significant increase in popularity, particularly with millennials, travel-related merchandise is a key way to drive both brand awareness and memorability, as employee engagement. According to studies millennials are nearly twice as likely to want to travel more for business than Baby Boomers, while Boston Consulting Group forecast that by 2020 millennials will account for close to 50% of all business travel spending.
What we did
We developed 500x travel kits which were to be used as a giveaway at the event. The concept was for a professional-looking design that attendees would be proud to own. The external branding was therefore very subtle. We designed and sourced branded and non-branded items from a variety of sources and packaged and fulfilled from our warehouse. Each kit contained a number of items including; eye drops for relieving dry-eyes which is common on long flights, a credit card-sized sanitizer, hand lotion, toothbrush, ear plugs, gum and bamboo refresher wipes.
The effects
The resulting product was a great fit for the client and was “just what we were looking for” said their Head of Procurement. The CPhI Worldwide conference took place on 9-11th October in Madrid, Spain.
Travel kits like these are a great addition to any company serious about staff retention for business trips. According to American Express Travel, from “a company point of view, providing staff with some flexibility and freedom to make their own business travel choices, within specific parameters, can be beneficial.
