Pets have been described as a ‘lifeline’ for many in lockdown with dog ownership rising. This has led to a reduction in social isolation and anxiety that have resulted from the pandemic. Over 90% of participants in a University of York study said their pet helped them cope with lockdown challenges.

As workers return to the office, 71% of Gen-Zers say they would consider quitting their job if they were not able to bring their pet into the office with them. Many are worried about how they will cope without their pets after a long time being together and don’t want to leave their pets home alone.

There is now a greater need for flexible working, and this includes dog-friendly, or pet-friendly workplaces, especially as animal welfare concerns grow. A survey of 1,003 employees conducted by comparethemarket.com in June found that almost half of respondents (42%) were hoping to bring their dog to the office.

This is largely because the pandemic has led some to re-evaluate their lifestyle and priorities and in response, offices are becoming more homely.
