Statistics from mental health charity Mind show that approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. 1 in 6 people in England also report experiencing a common mental health problem (such as anxiety and depression) in any given week.
At least some of your employees are likely grapple with mental health issues at some point, so it’s important to have the support and professionals in place to help with this. You can help boost the mental well-being of your employees by:
- Encouraging regular breaks and fresh air. With the known result of increased endorphins coming from physical activity, encouraging staff to take a lunch-time walk, run or other exercise could improve their mental health.
- Encouraging schemes like ‘Cycle to work’. Showing your commitment to the environment and the fitness of staff and encouraging staff to turn up to work physically and mentally stimulated, can be beneficial.
- Ensuring staff feel valued and engaged in the business. Awards in recognition of achievement, long service awards, ample opportunities for staff to feedback and managers to listen, can ensure a culture of positivity and reduced stress.
